The Infamous Blanket Coat

Everyone is dying to try this trend after seen Cara Delevingne walk in Burberry wearing a custom made blanket coat.  This bold new trend made headlines at every fashion magazine.  Since then many other designers have followed in Burberry’s footsteps, creating their own interpretation of the blanket coat (Vivienne Westwood, Urban Outfitters, Asos)

I tried styling a look with a blanket coat (i hope successfully).  As I was putting together a look, i realized that there are so many ways to style blanket coats.  They work casually with jeans and a t-shirt and also can be worn over a formal dress. I found to add some shape, add a thin belt to give more definition on the waist.  With out the belt I looked like I wore my bedding outside! (I would highly recommend J.Crew’s Skinny belts)

I am trying to demystify styling a blanket coat both for my benefit as well as yours.  I love it with ripped boyfriend jeans rolled up with booties and a classic white V-neck.  It is perfect for some added warmth over polished jeans tucked into boots with a blouse for a more put together look.  And if you really want to be daring, try it with heels and a cocktail dress!

Let me know if you need some more demystifying or have anything you would like me to discuss in the future!
