Best CC Cream Ever

Finding makeup that works for our individual skin type is hard and every person has different preferences when it comes to beauty products.  I have been searching long and hard for a CC Cream that works for me.

I like to use CC Cream or BB Cream because it is lighter than foundation and looks like you are not wearing any makeup at all.  CC Cream is my favorite because it smooths out your skin tone and has a color corrector.  BB Cream is very similar to CC Cream but does not have as many added benefits for your skin.  They are both great for summer too because they will last, and who wants heavy foundation running down her face?

One thing that I have had issues with concerning CC Cream in the past is my face looking shiny in photos.  Sometimes this can happen because of the SPF in it.

I am beyond ecstatic that I found Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream when I went to Sephora. It comes in 7 different shades ranging from fair to medium/dark.  It has 30 SPF and “a color correcting cream that fades imperfections, evens complexion, and prevents further discoloration.” I have found this all to be true and was so happy to see that it helped my acne scars fade over time.  This is definitely a game changer.  I love that it brightens skin and can even work as a base if you prefer more coverage.  In the winter the hydration has also saved my skin many times from drying out.  I would seriously recommend that everyone tries this out!

(This review is all my own genuine opinion.  In no way have I been compensated for my review)

Let me know what your favorite CC and BB Creams are.  Do you have this or do you have any you like even more than this?  I would love your feedback!

Summer Skincare

Summer is tough on skin.  Especially for an Irish girl like me.  I constantly have to apply sunscreen and when I forget to I am burnt for a week.  Summer is definitely not a time to be lax on skin protection.

Sunscreen

For my body I tend to use Coppertone Sport spray sunscreen because its a lot faster, but liquid sunscreen is better for making sure you cover your whole body.  On occasion I miss an entire strip of skin on my leg and will get a very awkward sunburn there.

My face is very sensitive, so I never use the sports sunscreens on my face because they are oily and make me break out.  That is probably a common occurrence among everyone.  I found this sunscreen COOLA which I have been using for a few years now and absolutely love it for my face.

I love using COOLA because it is a mineral based product, is great for sensitive skin and is good for the environment.

The tinted sunscreen is a fantastic primer for makeup but can also just been worn alone.  Its a win, win! I like the ones that have a matte finish because the spf in sunscreens can sometimes make skin look shiny in photos.  Some also have cucumber or rose in it, which is very refreshing for summer.

Accessories

Wearing a hat in the summer has saved my face from many sunburns. I invested in a wide-brimmed hat from j. crew which I wear all the time in the summer.  I recommend this to everyone because the sun can be very tough on your face.  I once was on vacation and was not protecting my face very well from the sun and ended up with a sunburn that made me look like I had a red mustache.  Needless to say I am not letting that happen again.  Even though I am young, I am being proactive about my skincare because I know my future self will thank me when I don’t have wrinkles at the age of 50. 🙂

Hair Styles to Survive the Heat Wave

**Featured in the PreppyU Magazine**

Summer is a time of fun in the sun and also a time of intense heat and humidity.  In the Northeast, Summer weather comes rapidly. The temperature jumps from being in the 60s to the 80s. There is no way I can wear my hair down during this time. It’s way too hot! I was always looking for a new fun way to wear my hair thats different than the normal ponytail or bun, I bet you are too! here are 3 easy up-dos for those hot Summer days.

1 Tied Up Bun

The first step is to find a cool hair scarf.  These come in handy in the summer to keep hair off the face and are also a cute accessory to liven up a bun. Tie the scarf around your head, then gather your hair into a slightly messy bun. This simple and easy look is not only cute but also can hide your hair if it needs a wash.

2 Headband Twist

The headband twist is a simple way to have a clean and polished hairstyle.  First you put the headband over your hair.  Then you start by twisting your strands around the back on the headband and pinning them in place with bobbie pins.  It’s okay to have fly-aways and uneven loops.  I think these even add to the look!

3 French Braid to Bun

The french braid into a bun is a class and elegant look for summer.  First, start by making a deep side part.  Then, start the french braid by going across your head and then backwards.  I like to keep my braid a little loose because it adds some texture.  Once you have braided the whole side of your head, put your remaining strands in a bun.  Finish the braid and wrap these strands around the already made bun.  Spray with hairspray for the style to hold and prevent frizz.

I hope you love these hairstyles as much as I do! let me know what you think.

Salon Style

Senior Prom was last week and there was no way I could procure the up-do I wanted all by myself.  That lead me to my usual salon.  I really did not know what to expect.  Do they already have an idea in mind?  How much time will be spent on me? Will they know what I want?

I texted my hair dresser before hand to ask her what she thinks will look good with my dress.  I would recommend this to anyone getting styled for an event.  This way we were able to send ideas back and forth.  We were both able to be on the same page before the appointment, making the whole thing run smoothly.

When she started doing my hair I learned I needed to be very specific and honest about how I want my hair compared to how it was.  Most people get very uncomfortable with asking their hairdresser to change something when they do not like it.  One might be weary of hurting her feelings.  What you don’t know is they will happily change something if you want it differently.  The one thing you need to remember is that she can not read your mind and will happily tweak until everything is how you pictured. My hair dresser had to redo a part of my up-do three times, but it was all worth it when it was finally perfect.

Lustrum by NuMe

NuMe: revolutionizing the curling iron.  I recently invested in getting the Lustrum curling iron set from NuMe.  Its very different from any other curling iron I have seen because it comes with 5 interchangeable barrels, providing a large selection of curling options.  I like the versatility of it and the quality of the product.  I can change my look with just the switch of a barrel.

In order from left to right: Barrels: 32mm, 25mm, 19mm, Pearl wand, Reverse wand

The barrels, cord, glove, and handle all fit neatly into a carrying pouch.  It is perfect for any one who travels and like to switch up their look every day with a variety of options in one small, compact space.  Furthermore, it’s just great in general because one does not need to go and buy 5 different wands which would end up costing much more.

The most important feature of this curling iron, along with NuMe’s other styling tools, is the tourmaline-infused barrels.  Tourmaline Technology seals in natural oils and moisture with in the hair cuticle.  Many companies in this industry have started to switch over to using barrels made of different materials, like tourmaline, in hopes to find one that will not damage the hair follicles.  Tourmaline Technology provides over 600% more negative ions, creates a healthy shine, and is damage free.  I don’t know about you, but this is my dream curling iron because I am always so paranoid that my curling iron will in fact damage my hair.  Although the Lustrum does not let you choose a certain temperature, it conveniently heats up in a matter of seconds to 410 degrees Fahrenheit.

A bonus that has saved me from many possible burn injuries on my hands is the heat protecting glove it comes with.  This way I don’t have to worry about burning myself and can even touch the curling iron for a long period of time with the glove on and not feel anything.  It makes curling my hair much easier, especially in the mornings when I am half asleep.

I would love to hear what you think, leave a query or comment in the box below!

The Perfect Berry Lipstick

Urban Decay: Revolution Lipstick is the perfect lipstick.  It comes in 20 different shades and a matte finish.  I have the darkest shade: Shame.  It is deep berry.  I love that I can make it lighter or darker with the amount I apply.  When I don’t want to look to serious, I only put on one swipe and they blot a few times.  This makes my lips a light berry color.  The versatility of this lipstick is extraordinary! Although it was expensive, it was such a great investment.
