Although Georgia is known for its peaches, I think any organic and fresh peaches are pretty darn good. I was beyond happy when my neighbors generously gave me a giant basket of fresh peaches off the the peach tree at their house. I had been eyeing the peaches all summer and always wanted to try one of them. And now I have more peaches than I know what to do with!
Choosing peaches: You want to pick ones that are rich in color, firm but a little soft, and very fragrant.
I was over at a friends house and decided to bring a bag of peaches to eat raw or make a dish out of. I searched my favorite website- Pinterest – for a delicious peach recipe and found a delicious looking old fashioned peach cobbler recipe and decided to give it a shot. Peach is a perfect summer flavor. I loved this recipe for cobble because it is very easy to make and tasted AMAZING. The crumbled part actually was not very sweet and resembling cake a little bit which was the perfect contrast to the sweet peaches and cinnamon topping.

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract
2 teaspoons cornstarch
For the topping
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
1/4 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla or almond extract, and cornstarch.
Toss to coat peaches evenly and pour into a 2-quart baking dish or 5-6 individual baking dishes. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend in butter with a pastry cutter or your fingertips until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in boiling water until just combined. In a small bowl, stir together the 3 tablespoons of white sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
Remove peaches from oven, and drop spoonfuls of topping over them. Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture evenly over the topping. Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
Let me know how you like this recipe? What are some of your favorite recipes to make with fresh fruit in the summer?
We are all guilty of grabbing a pack of cookies on our way out the door because it is convenient and fast. It is very hard to eat healthy with all the tempting fast foods. And its even harder when you are in college or working to have the time to prepare healthy meals. Here are five of my favorite fast and simple healthy snacks for busy days ( or any day really). They all take under five minute to prepare!
I love Avocado because it has such great health benefits. What could be better than sliced avocado on warm toast with smoked chipotle pepper.
PB & J
I revamped the PB & J to be a guilt free sandwich. I used whole wheat toast, almond butter, and fresh strawberries.
Pita & Hummus
I toasted pita bread to go with fresh hummus and garnished with rosemary.
This bite sized snack packs in protein and fiber into a perfect quick snack. I sliced a ripe banana and topped it with peanut butter and either dark chocolate chips or cocoa nibs.
Blueberry Yogurt Dots
Dip blueberries in vanilla yogurt and freeze them. A refreshing (and healthy) treat. Bonus: the blueberries will help you power through late night studying. They give your brain a boost and help retain memory.
I love all of these snacks. Which are your favorite and what would you change? What are your favorite healthy, on-the-go snacks? Please let me know if you try any of these!
This morning I browsed Pinterest in hopes of finding a fun and easy breakfast recipe to switch up my every day routine. I always find mouthwatering recipes on Pinterest and today was no different. I found a chocolate hazelnut smoothie bowl recipe but didn’t have all the same ingredients so I altered the recipe to what I had in my fridge and pantry. I do this a lot with recipes and they normally turn out pretty well surprisingly! It only took me about 8 mins to make!
I would recommend this recipe more as a dessert or snack rather than breakfast. It is a little too sweet for breakfast in my opinion because I put Nutella in it but none the less was still a fantastic meal.
Again, this is all just food I had in my house at the time. I substituted what was un the recipe for similar things I had on hand. I would encourage you to get creative and use the foods you have at hand! ex. bananas, nuts, any kind of fruit, cinnamon
If you try this recipe let me know what you think! Do you have any smoothie bowl recipes you love? I am always looking for new recipes to try.
I will start by saying these may be the best brownies in the world. Slutty brownies are the ultimate sweet treat that can be whipped up in under an hour. These brownies get there name from being super easy and making your hands filthy.
Here is my version of this delicious sweet treat:
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
I used Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie dough, birthday cake Oreos, and Ghirardelli triple chocolate fudge brownie mix. I have seen people use home made ingredients and mixes from a box alike. If you are making the dough from scratch or follow the dough making directions and then continue to my next steps. I chose to go with these because everything is basically pre-made and I just have to put it in the pan. **aka FOOL PROOF**
first line the pan with parchment paper. Then put a layer of cookie dough, squishing it it into all of the crevices until the bottom is covered.
next put a layer of Oreos
**side note** I used the birthday cake Oreos which smelled amazingggg. If you want plain Oreos I would recommend doing double stuffed so then you get extra ooey gooey goodness. There are also a ton of other Oreo flavors- chocolate, berry, mint, golden, lemon, and cookie dough- which I want to try out when I bake this in the future. I bet they will taste just as good, if not better!
After that I mixed up my brownie mix, I layered that into my pan.
Bake in the over for 30-40 mins **this just depends on how gooey you want the middle to be**
Let it cool and enjoy!
Let me know if you bake this and how you like it! what are your favorite sweet treats to bake? 🙂
THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I don’t think anyone was more excited than I when I heard the news that Chipotle released its secret Guacamole recipe. Chipotle’s guac has long been the best guacamole I have ever had. And, believe me, I have tried many. There is just something about it that sets it apart from all the rest.
After hearing the news, I immediately went out and bought all the ingredients. At first I was a little skeptical about the jalepeno but it gave the guac a really nice kick. The recipe was super easy to make and only took about 20 mins. The end result was totally worth it and tasted just like Chipotle’s guac. If I can make it taste delicious anyone can.
2 ripe Hass avocados
2 teaspoons lime juice
2 tablespoons cilantro (chopped)
1/4 cup red onion (finely chopped)
1/2 jalapeno, including seeds (finely chopped)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Choose the right avocado. It should feel squishy yet firm (like the palm of your hand), and be a nice dark green color on the inside.
Cut the avocado in half and the remove the pit (carefully!) Scoop the avocados and place in a medium bowl.
Toss and coat with lime juice. Add the salt and using a fork or potato masher, mash until a smooth consistency is achieved.
Fold in the remaining ingredients and mix well.
Taste the guacamole (over and over) and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Let me know if you attempted to make the recipe and how it tasted!
Imagine walking into a retro and well lit pawn shop labeled “Beauty & Essex”. As you enter, a man in a suit swiftly opens a door revealing the foyer of a bar and restaurant.
This is truly a unique restaurant. It feels like you are walking into a speakeasy in the 1920s. The foyer has a grand staircase and is filed with mirrors, marble, and a beautiful chandelier. I image it is very much like a club that Jay Gatsby would have gone to. The bar has a wonderful atmosphere and has a mix of modern and antique luxurious accents.
The dining room is breath-taking with its decadent decor. There is a huge skylight in the center of the ceiling. Looking out of it, you can see many luscious plants growing. The seats- chairs and couches- all very pouch and luxurious in velvet and leather.
The bathroom even reflects the 1920s with its art-deco tile, mirrors with round vanity light, and beautiful antique perfume bottles. There is even a seating plush seating area and a bar. The bar gives customers complementary champagne in the bathroom. How better can it get?
The food is very unique with a tapas menu. Tapas is food to share with the the whole table. The philosophy is that you get less and share it so you are able to try many different dishes. I am obsessed with all of the creative gourmet dishes this restaurant has invented.
One of my favourite items I ordered was the Grilled Cheese, Smoked Bacon, and Tomato Soup Dumpling:
I hope you enjoyed learning about this unique restaurant. Leave me any questions or comments! (all photos provided by Beauty & Essex unless otherwise specified)
As I wait for Sunday brunch, I see through the open doorways, the mouth-watering food. I think to myself, the hour long wait will be worth it. Sitting down at The Smith on 51st I unfold my menu to see a selection of delicious items. I could hardly decide what to order. I finally decided on the Salmon Eggs Benedict. It was so savory and melted in my mouth. I can hardly wait to dine again at The Smith
