Bandanas have been in my life ever since I can remember. However, I was not always so fond of them as I am now. I have many memories of my mom accessorizing my hair with bandanas during my childhood saying how stylish they were when she was growing up despite my incessant protests that I looked ridiculous. As I grew, I learned to tolerate them, and even like them on certain occasions. Even so, I can only recall a handful of times I have been seen sporting one in the past eight years.
Recently bandanas have come full circle and made a stylish and trendy reappearance. This return began at music festivals like Coachella, notorious for its stylishly dressed attendees in eclectic and western inspired pieces. I for one, am ecstatic that is western trend is coming back for the sheer versatility of the bandana. Unlike previous trends gracing festival grounds, this ‘It’ accessory is very affordable and has some real practicality to it, too. A bandana can be worn as a head wrap, a headband, a scarf, a choker, a bracelet, and I have even seen it worn as a top on some occasions. So many possibilities!
I recently bought a new laptop for college. Naturally, I wanted to get some cool decorations so I started searching for companies that give out free stickers (i’m working with a college budget here!) If you’re in the same boat here are a bunch of websites that are give them out.
I found many companies had forms set up to send out stickers or otherwise you just have to shoot them an email asking for stickers. (linked are the forms)
These companies have a form to fill out for free stickers:
Ron Jon Surf Shop Ron Jon Surf Shop Attn: Free Stickers
3850 S Banana River Blvd. Cocoa Beach, FL 32931
These companies will send you stickers if you fill out the linked forms or email them at their customer service email address.
Yeti Coolers – email them at email@example.com
Puma – email them at firstname.lastname@example.org Vineyard Vines – email them at email@example.com Moosejaw Peace Tea Coca Cola Snapple
These are just a small collection I have gathered of the many companies who participate. If there are other companies you want to receive stickers from, I would suggest emailing them through customer service. More often than not, they are happy to send you some.
Hope you all are having a good end of summer and start to the school year!
One of my New Year Resolutions is to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I picked this number because the American Heart association says you should walk 10,000 steps a day in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. At school I easily walk 11,000 steps a day just walking to and from my classes, and I almost always reach 15,000 steps on weekends. It’s really hard to reach my goal while I am on break and home from school because it isn’t necessary for me to walk everywhere here.
While I am home, I am constantly trying to think of ways to reach my step goal. It’s so much more challenging since our roads are not easily walkable and very narrow. My favorite way to get my steps in is to walk my dog one or two times a day.
I received a Fitbit Flex as a High School graduation gift and it is one of the most useful gifts I have ever received. This is one of the more inexpensive products in the Fitbit product line. There’s a tracker for every budget, too. The trackers range from around $60- $250. There are even Fitbits designed by designers like Tory Burch so they actually look like a bracelet!
My favorite part about my Fitbit is actually the app that comes along with it. It tells me a variety of things like my steps, miles, calories burned, and active minutes. It even tracks my sleep and will tell me about my quality of sleep. The best part about the app, though, is that you can compete with your friends and see who can get the most amount of steps in a week. Competing with my friends has motivated me to be active on days when I would rather be a couch potato all day.
*this post is not affiliated in any way this Fitbit, I just really love the product :)*
Its been exactly a week since New Years Resolutions have been made. Many of us pick the typical: loose weight, be more active, learn an instrument, or eat more healthy. That was the easy part. Now here comes the hard part- actually keeping those resolutions.
We are all guilty of giving up on our resolutions way too soon. This year lets at least try to stick to them.
Here are my tips on making your resolutions stick:
Make 5 max. resolutions. A mistake many of us make (I know I always do) is to pick too many resolutions. Overload is never the answer. Pick at most 5 resolutions that you really want to focus on and stick with. By focusing on these, you are less likely to get overwhelmed and able to spend more time on each.
Make a list once a week of tasks relating to your resolutions. If you want to lose weight, it might be “go to the gym and try 2 different fitness classes.” If you want to learn the guitar, it might be ” learn three chords by Friday.”
Put it in your calendar. Allot a certain amount of time each day/week to your resolutions. Doing this will help you stay focused and on track for success.
It’s okay if you don’t complete all of them. I know I always get so stressed out over my resolutions because I want to make sure I do all of them. Thats not the point of them though, they shouldn’t stress you out. They are supposed to help you have goals and have fun throughout the year. So, if you don’t complete all of them, don’t worry.
Have fun! The point is to have fun and do new things. So go out there are kick butt with your resolutions this year.
I am one of those people that wont decide on a costume until the day before halloween. It can be very stressful when you know you have no time to order things online or go shopping.
7 Last Minute Costume Ideas:
Vampire: vampires are a fool proof costume. Throw on some black clothes that you feel confident and fun in, get some fangs, and apply a dark berry lipstick. Add some blood to vamp it up a notch.
Frat Boy: throw on a Hawaiian shirt, some colorful chinos, a baseball or bucket cap, and Sperry’s and you’re good to go!
Cow Girl: All you need for this costume is a plaid shirt, jean bottoms, leather boots (preferably cowgirl boots), and a bandanna. Cow girl hat optional*
Baseball Player: What you need is your favorite baseball teams jersey, white, gray, or black ;leggings depending on the team colors, sneakers, white high socks, and a matching baseball cap. To take it up a notch carry around a baseball and wear eye black.
Taylor Swift: Grab your favorite skirt-sweater set, a classic handbag, cute sunglasses, and classic heels or boots. Go the extra length by wearing red lipstick!
Arianna Grande: Throw on a fun skater skirt or dress, some cute pumps, and throw your hair up in her signature half-up-half-down. ** you could also go the funny route and buy a box of donuts to lick and talk about how awful America is.
Hippie: Find a flower or tie-dye top and a pair of ultra flare pants. Take this look up a notch with a flower crown, a peace sign necklace, and some groovy shades. And don’t forget to flash a couple peace signs!
What are your go-to halloween costumes? What are you dressing up as this year?
I am an outerwear kind of gal. Being one of those people that’s always freezing makes outerwear a necessity for me, so why not start a collection? I am obsessed with outerwear and believe you can never get enough. If you life in the north, I know you feel my pain for the beautiful but brutal winters here in New England.
7 coat trends to try this fall:
POLAR VORTEX: think casual, uber cozy and puffy parkas and anoraks with hints of fur.
FUR SURE: rich fur is making a comeback but in a completely different way. Companies now have found a way to make faux fur identical to the real thing. This luxe textile will be big with not only coats, but also collars, stoles, and even cuffs.
THAT’S A WRAP: Wrap coats instantly amp up the sophistication factor of any look. These coats are also made of ultra cozy material.
CAPE CRUSADERS: the dramatic cape has made a comeback once again. Not only in the classics, but also in a myriad of ranges- long, dramatic, and even weatherproof.
FRINGE FINISH: fringe is everywhere! I cant wait to try out this trend with a fun fringe coat
BOMBER BLISS: Cozy, functional, and durable… what does this coat not have. I love this silhouette with super warm sherpa wool.
CREAMY COLOR: colored coats in classic silhouettes are everywhere this fall. Colors are great because even though you may not enjoy the cold weather, a colorful jacket does the trick to instantly brighten someones mood.
What coat type are you most excited to try this fall?
My sister just purchased the light pink pastel coat in the “creamy color” category and I might just have to steal it from her closet because I’m so obsessed with it. I also can’t wait to try the cape coat trend. I have never tried on or had anything like that and I am super excited!
Studying for exams can be very stressful if kept to the last minute. I:ve noticed that all of my classes seem to have exams all around the same time too, making it even more difficult to study for them all. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the material you have to know. Adjusting to a self disciplined way of studying in college can seem daunting at times, but here are some study tips to help you make it a little easier.
Here are 5 studying tips for your next exam:
Write all of your exams dates down immediately after they are given to you.
I write all of my exam dates in 3 places- my weekly calendar, my cell phone calendar, and homework planner. This way, I know no exam date will slip by under the radar.
Declutter your desk.
Having a cluttered desk can be very distracting when you need to focus. Having anything from makeup to food to other assignments can take away from efficiently learning the material you’re studying. Take away all unnecessary objects from your desk and give yourself plenty of space to spread out your work.
Turn your phone off.
We are all guilty of looking at our phone more often than studying. Looking at your notifications while at your desk takes your focus away from the task at hand. I know first hand how easy it is to get caught up with things on my phone and before I know it, I wasted 30 mins of time I could have used to study.
Make a Study plan.
I try to make a plan for myself. I write down all of the things I need to do before an exam like- read the material, do practice problems for each chapter, and make flashcards. Space these out by explicitly writing down what you are going to accomplish for each day. Something I like to do for this is write down that I will study for 20 mins for X number of intervals. I find that breaking up my studying makes me work harder during those 20 minute intervals.
Light a candle.
Or if your in a dorm like me, get your favorite incense. At home, I would always light my favorite candle (Apple Cider) when study for a big exam. Something about it always calmed me down and made me more focused. Here at school, I keep on my desk a fragrant, organic bar of soap my grandmother sent me for my birthday. The soap is made from eucalyptus and lavender, so it is very calming and refreshing.
Fall is my favorite season not only because of my birthday, but also for the clothes! Fall is the perfect temperature for layers. Summer is too hot and humid for my cutest clothes and winter I end up piling on layers until I resemble a snowman.
Here are 5 fall trends to follow this season:
1.Flares: Nothing says casual-chic like a great pair of ultra flared jeans. It’s no wonder flares are super flattering and comfortable. I love this trend because they go great with big chunky sweaters and booties for fall.
4. Over the Knee Boots: These boots are essential for fall. They were huge last year and will be just as prevalent (if not more!) this season. Bonus: you can stretch your summer dresses into fall with these fall staples.
It’s that time of year again! New York Fashion Week has begun with all of its usual glitz and glamour and more. Many have traveled across the world just to see the iconic shows. One of the first runway shows to kick off the season was Diane Von Furstenberg.
Since the iconic wrap dress, DVF has been known for its classic, feminine styles. I love the beautiful prints, colors, and the flattering styles I see every season on the Diane Von Furstenberg runway.
This year was no exception to the goddess-like styles made famous in previous seasons. Filled with whimsical feminine forms, the clothes are anything you could dream of and more. The color palette consists on beautiful fuchsias, gold, white, turquoise, light pink, and black. The fabrics looks absolutely decadent when brought to life on the catwalk. Black-and-white patchwork maxi dresses, floral jumpsuits, and gold embroidery where just a few of the luxurious prints. The 70’s vibe to this collection is just a glimpse of the styles to come this spring. Karlie Kloss started the show and Gigi Hadid closed it. This is not a collection you will want to miss.
here are a few of my favorite looks from the show:
What are your favorite looks? What are your favorite runway shows from NYFW Spring 16?
I love this look as a transition into fall. Rolling up my jeans is a go to styling tip for me when its still warm out during the day but gets a little cooler in the evening. It makes a look a little more casual.
Halter tops like this have such a flattering cut for any body type. I have found so many similar tops to this that I love. I decided to go with the pink because I realized I barely have any pink in my closet!
I am not normally a statement earring type of person, but when I saw these amazing earrings I knew I had to have them. They are so great for elevating a simple look.
