H&M x Balmain

I am ecstatic to announce that in less than 24 hours, Nov. 5, the newest collaboration H&M x Balmain will be in stores and online.

Designer collaborations have becoming increasingly popular because of their monumental success every time. Think Target x Lilly Pulitzer and H&M x Alexander Wang. Each of these collections sold out in a matter of hours after they were released.

Ever since the H&M x Balmain collaboration was announced in June at the Billboard music awards in LA, I have been patiently counting down the days till the collection hits stores.

Here is a little bit about our collaborators:
H&M is a fast fashion retail company.  It sells trendy clothes at affordable prices.
Balmain is a fashion house from Paris.  It is well known for it’s color, fluidity, and elegance. Current creative director Olivier Rousteing has a mission to grow the brand even more and said this collaboration is a dream come true for him.

Here is an interview with Olivier Rousteing regarding the collaboration.

So…. What are the clothes like?
There is no doubt that the collection resembles Rousteing’s signature work at Balmain.  Some pieces can even be tracked directly to their inspiration from the runway. The collection is filled with trousers channeling the same inspiration found at Balmain today, beaded mini dresses paired with exaggerated shoulder jackets, draped skirts, and over the knee boots. All pieces made from luxurious-feeling fabrics from silk to suede.

My favorite piece of this collection I would have to say is the green sequin embroidered dress with the draped silk skirt as a close second.

Rousteing was able to deliver a collection at lower prices and, therefore, accessible to more of his fans.  Will the general public match Rousteing’s enthusiasm? Well, I guess we’ll find out when the collection hits stores tomorrow, Nov. 5.

Get ready for Balmainia!! #HMBALMAINATION

DVF Spring 2016

It’s that time of year again! New York Fashion Week has begun with all of its usual glitz and glamour and more.  Many have traveled across the world just to see the iconic shows.  One of the first runway shows to kick off the season was Diane Von Furstenberg.

Since the iconic wrap dress, DVF has been known for its classic, feminine styles.  I love the beautiful prints, colors, and the flattering styles I see every season on the Diane Von Furstenberg runway.

This year was no exception to the goddess-like styles made famous in previous seasons.  Filled with whimsical feminine forms, the clothes are anything you could dream of and more.  The color palette consists on beautiful fuchsias, gold, white, turquoise, light pink, and black. The fabrics looks absolutely decadent when brought to life on the catwalk.  Black-and-white patchwork maxi dresses, floral jumpsuits, and gold embroidery where just a few of the luxurious prints.  The 70’s vibe to this collection is just a glimpse of the styles to come this spring. Karlie Kloss started the show and Gigi Hadid closed it.  This is not a collection you will want to miss.

here are a few of my favorite looks from the show:

Wearable Technology: A New Trend In Fashion

In recent years, technology has become an ever increasing part of our everyday lives. Technology has advanced and enhanced everything we do in our lives.  Naturally, it has  been integrated into our everyday fashion and couture fashion.

Smartphones are an everyday wearable technology.  At first I didn’t think of them that way, but I’ve noticed that the way a person caries her phone or where she cary it (shirt pocket, pants pocket, hand) contributes to the over all styling of their outfit.  In addition, it is ever common to see people customize this accessory through different cases and bedazzlements. Kenneth Cole even brought smartphones to the runway!

Google Glass

The Google Glass made its debut on the Runway during fashion week.  Diane Von Furstenberg partnered with Google Glass in her Spring 2013 fashion show, spearheading the integration of technology to the catwalk.  It is an amazing piece of wearable technology that I along with many others are fascinated with.  Once Google Glass is available to the general public, the demand will be high and fashion and our daily lives will be changed forever.

The Fitbit, along with other similar devices are used to track a persons health and fitness throughout the day.  Many people really like these trackers because they make you more aware of you health habits.  However, many thought the overall design was boring.  Lucky for them, a few designers ,such as Tory Burch, came to their rescue with the Fitbit technology disguised as a highly fashionable bracelet.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch, scheduled to launch in June (originally April but the demand from pre-orders is so high that they were not prepared) is changing the game.  Apple has already pre sold over one million watches!  This watch is a computer on your wrist. I imagine it is like those spy movies where the agents talk into their wrists.  One aspect that makes it so popular is Apple’s ability to integrate the watch into fashion.  There are 3 different designs for the watch face and several different watch bands to choose from.

Let me know what do you think about the technology trends in fashion! 🙂  Which trends do you like and which are you skeptical to try?

Elie Saab: Spring Couture 2015

This Lebanese designer has a impeccable taste for sequin and crystal. This season he dedicated this collection to his past.  He pulled inspiration from his parents and nature, creating a breathtaking collection.  Saab is known for his glittering red-carpet fare, he is one of the most consistent couturiers, but his always injects freshness through channeling inspiration from his childhood in the 60’s.

With classic silhouettes, collection embodied sophistication and luxury.  The delicate fabrics and intricate detailing are truly amazing.   Above the knee frocks paired with sateen heels were a first for Saab.  Other unlikely silhouettes- a tulle coat and sheer jumpsuits- gave off a low-key vibe to the collection. The gowns were even built with pockets to keep with this vibe!  Elie Saab rarely uses prints, preferring the simplicity of solids, in his designs but this collection featured a tulip print.
